The Fairfax Ballet

The Fairfax Ballet is an incorporated non-profit organization formed in 1971 to provide young, qualified student dancers an opportunity to gain performing experience under professional direction with the highest possible standards of artistic achievement.

At the same time, the Company presents to the community programs of classic and contemporary ballet, thereby promoting an awareness and understanding as well as an appreciation of the art of dance.

The Fairfax Ballet had an on-going educational series of performances presented each spring for Areas I, II, III and IV of Fairfax County elementary school students, in conjunction with school officials, with over 8,600 pupils attending six performances. Previously the Fairfax Ballet performed with the Fairfax Symphony for fourth grade students of Fairfax County in eight performances at George Mason Center for the Arts with 16,000 pupils attending. Additionally, the company presents public performances throughout the Metropolitan Area.

The Virginia Commission of the Arts has awarded the Fairfax Ballet six monetary grants matched by Company funds during the initial seasons of 1972 through 1981. For the years 1985 through 2007, the Fairfax Ballet received projects grants from the Arts Council of Fairfax County, as well as a salaries assistance grant for the years 1988 through 1990. The Fairfax Ballet is based at the Russell School of Ballet.
